Manu outside National Reserve 5 Days and 4 Nights (return by flight from Boca Manu)

This is a perfect second option ,after the expensive national reserve ,( so you dont have to pay the 55 usd entree) you don't go inside the reserve but go to places with not manny tourist  in small groups to the border of the reserve, you see some animals like parots, do some trekking , sleep 3 nights in tents and 1 night in lodge . if you do 6 days you go back to cusco overland and sleep 1 more night in lodge.
 


Day 1 CUSCO -PILCOPATA

We leave from Cusco by private bus, first stopping to visit the pre Inca burial towers of Ninamarca. We then drive through the mountains, to get to the typical and folkloric town of Paucartambo. Here we will have a short walk around town before carrying on to Ajanaco, the highest point and entrance to Manu National Park.  From here we will continue into the Cloud Forest and at San Pedro we will walk for around 1 hour to observe the National bird of Peru, the cock of the rock, (Gallito de las Rocas) and two kinds of monkeys, plants and flowers.  We arrive to Pilcopata in the evening where we will spend the night in a local lodge.



Day 2 PILCOPATA – BONANZA CAMP SITE

After breakfast we will continue by private bus to Atalaya Port. On the way we will stop to observe a plantation, we will also stop at a view point where you can get a good overview of the jungle and river. From Atalaya we leave by motorized boat to Aguas Calientes, where you can bath in the nature hot springs. From there we will continue by boat to Bonanza (camping platforms).  We will arrive mid-afternoon.  In the late afternoon we will walk in the jungle and fish in the river, returning to Bonanza for dinner.  After dinner we will take a night walk in the jungle to look for spiders and snakes. We will camp on our platforms in tents.



Day 3 BONANZA CAMP SITE - BLANQUILLO

After breakfast we will leave Bonanza camp site  by river visiting the native community of Diamante. Here we have walk around the village, learning about native life and practices.  We then continue by boat to Boca Manu, where you will have a chance to buy snacks, repellent, could beer, etc. After one hour we back to the boat so keep going dawn stream Madre de Dios River to arriving Blanquillo camp site.  Here we will spend the night; among the afternoon we will visit the Oxbow Lake, to observe any kind of wildlife.



Day 4 BLANQUILLO - BOCA MANU.

We will leave very early to visit the macaw clay lick. We use a camouflaged boat (catamaran) to view the Clay lick where the Parrots and Macaws eat mineral salt.  From here we take our boat back to Boca Manu, and in the afternoon we will visit the native community of ‘Isla de los Valles’, here we will fish Piranhas, watch the beautiful sunset and have another opportunity to catch Caimans. We will camp here on the sandbank close to the river.



Dag 5 BOCA MANU - CUSCO.

On the final day we return to Cusco, timing depends on the flight and weather conditions.
 

*Those returning by boat will return to Pilcopata (around 6 hrs by boat).  Here we will spend the night in a local lodge.  The following day we will tale our private bus back to Cusco, arriving late afternoon.
