Day 1 – Buenos Aires
Arrival and reception at the airport; transfer to the hotel. In the afternoon, visit to the most elegant South American city. You will sightsee the Plaza de Mayo main square and its surrounding buildings, 9 de Julio Avenue, the old quarter of San Telmo which used to be the most well-off district in the city, now becoming again one of the trendiest areas, and the Italian district of La Boca with its colourful “Caminito”, an alley skirted by the typical colored tin facades of the old “conventillos”, basic houses where, back in the beginning of the 20th century, many families would live together in just a few rooms. On the way to Palermo, one of Buenos Aires traditional areas, you will go by the most important places such as the zoo, the botanical garden, Palermo Parks, the polo field, the planetarium and the oldest residential neighbourhood known as Palermo Viejo, finally ending in the sophisticated district of La Recoleta, where you will visit Evita’s grave. Return to the hotel. Accommodation.
Day 2 – Buenos Aires
Breakfast. Day at leisure for optional tours. You may take a full day Gaucho Party tour, to get in touch with the Pampas and its gauchos and taste some delicious Argentine beef, or a half day tour to Tigre & Parana River Delta including a boat ride among the delta islands. In the evening, you will enjoy a dinner show where you will enjoy the sensual magnetism of tango, performed by the best tango dancers and singers. Return to the hotel. Accommodation.
Day 3 – Buenos Aires / Salta
Breakfast. Transfer to the airport to board the scheduled flight to Salta. Arrival and reception a the airport;transfer to the hotel. In the afternoon, enjoy a visit to the beautiful city of Salta including visit to MAAM Museum. Salta is, beyond any doubt, the Argentine city which has best preserved its colonial heritage, with its one-storey houses and its typical balconies with richly ornate colonial-style bars. The visit will make it possible to have a look at the most precious gems dating back to colonial times, such as: the Church and Monastery of San Francisco, the “Cabildo and Historic Museum of the Northwest”, the San Bernardo Monastery, the Italianstyle building of the Main Church, which hosts the mortal remains of the hero of the Independence Wars, General Martín Miguel de Güemes. The visit will end at the MAAM Museum (Archaeological Museum of High Mountain) which is a real ”must“ in the city for its great archaeological asset, particularly the mountains found in the height of Llullaillaco Volcano, in the Andean Cordillera. Day 4 – Salta
Breakfast. Day at leisure to enjoy some optional tours. We suggest you to take a full day tour to Cafayate which is well-known for its wine production as well as its enchanting landscape; or you can also join a full day tour to Cachi, small and traditional village notable for its typical mud houses and colonial architecture. Return to the hotel. Accommodation
Day 5 – Salta- Tilcara
Breakfast. Departure towards the small city of Tilcara, situated in the Humahuaca gorge. In the way we will make a short visit to San Salvador de Jujuy, capital city of the homonymous province. We will then reach Purmamarca. It is a picturesque town framed by the striking colours of the Cerro de los Siete Colores (Seven Coloured Mount). It is interesting to visit its adobe parish church, its main square where several local vendors gather offering their wood carvings, hand-woven carpets and tapestries and a wide assortment of medicinal and aromatic herbs that cure every possible ailment. Continuation to Tilcara. Upon arrival visit to the Pucará de Tilcara, an old pre-Colombian aborigine stronghold partially rebuilt. Transfer to the hotel. Day 6 – Tilcara / La Quiaca / Villazón / Tupiza
Breakfast. Early departure from Tilcara towards the Bolivian town of Tupiza. After a short stop in Humahuaca,we will continue towards the border. Vehicle and guide will be changed at the border. After Customs clearance, continuation to the small town of Tupiza. Transfer to the hotel. Accommodation. Total distance travelled: 311km (195 miles).
Day 7 – Tupiza / Colchani
Breakfast. Departure towards Colchani, visiting the surroundings of Tupiza. Lunch en route. You will pass by the Mining Center of Atocha, to get to Colchani. Dinner and Accommodation at Hotel Palacio de Sal, one of the most awesome hotels in the world, built entirely with salt. After dinner, by night stroll in the salt plains and the hotel surroundings. Get impressed at the pristine sky above the whiteness of the salt.
Breakfast. Departure towards the great Uyuni Salt Plains, visiting a Salt Processing Factory. During our visit along the salt pits you will be able to sightsee the so-called “water eyes” which are laggons formed on the salt.Visit to Incahuasi Island, also known as Fisher’s Island where it is posible to observe the amazing giant cactuses. Lunch will be served in the middle of the salt plains. Continuation to the town of MalkuCueva Villamar. Dinner and Accommodation.
Day 9 – Malku Cueva Villamar / Hito Cajón – San Pedro de Atacama.
Breakfast. Early depature towards the Chilean border. We will visit en route the Stone Tree in our way to the Eduardo Avaroa Reserve’s gem which is the Laguna Colorada (Red lagoon) where a flamingo species which is unique in the world can be observed. An interesting feature of this lagoon is how its colour varies as a result of algae and plankton activated by the action of sun and wind. Then we will surprise the Morning Sun Geyser at the time of the day when the geyser goes through its peak activity. At this point we will be driving at the highest part of our trip (5,000 meters -16,500 feet- above sea level). The cold here is intense. We will walk among boiling mud, smoky and noisy vapour springs. The desert and salt plains of Chalviri are both landscapes of great natural value. The mix of colours along with the white snow, the ochre colours of the desert, and the blue waters of the lagoons, make up an everlasting impression. Then we will approach another majestic site the Laguna Verde (Green Lagoon), which is set at the foothills of the Licancabur volcano. Lunch en route. From this point we will move forward to the Chilean border passing by Hito Cajón. From there we will start our adventure in the third country of our journey. Vehicle and guide will be changed at the border. We will reach San Pedro de Atacama, a magical village in the middle of the driest desert on earth. Transfer to the hotel. Accommodation. Total distance travelled: 225 km (160 miles).
Day 10 – San Pedro de Atacama
Breakfast. Full day tour of the Altiplanic Lagoons, Atacama salt flats and Toconao. A journey which starts in the Atacama salt flats, visiting the village of Toconao, the Chaxa lagoon where three varieties of flamingos breed and then continues to the village of Socaire and the highland lagoons of Miscanti and Meñiques. At a height of 4,500 meters (14,850 feet) the lagoons are south of the village of Socaire which overlooks the Atacama Salt Flat. The lagoons are surrounded by impressive volcanoes which origins date back to the ancient times when the Andean Cordillera rose from the sea. Their water comes from the underground run off from the melting snow. Lunch included. Return to the hotel. Accommodation. Total distance travelled: 240km (150 miles).
Day 11 – San Pedro de Atacama
Early departure from San Pedro towards the El Tatio Geysers. A guided walk around the geothermal field as the fumaroles of steam which appear at dawn rise into the sky. Journey through the Andes mountains, with wonderful views of the Putana volcano and the peaks of Torcopuri. Return to San Pedro de Atacama.Breakfast will be served during the tour. In the afternoon, visit to the so-called Moon Valley: the Salt mountain range and get amazed at the fabulous views it offers over the valley; the Mars or Death valley with its spectacular scenery and continue to the “Three Marías” an interesting geological formation which is next to a former salt mine. At dusk, climb a large sand dune in the Moon Valley for spectacular views of the sunset over the Andes mountains. Return to the hotel. Accommodation. Total distance travelled: 235 km (147 miles).
Day 12 – San Pedro de Atamaca / Santiago de Chile
Breakfast. Morning at leisure. Take advantage of this time to visit to the interesting village of San Pedro de Atacama. It is mostly built with traditional materials such as adobe and cactus from the surrounding countryside, the streets are unpaved and the atmosphere is one of relaxed enjoyment of life. With its strong Inca influences, it is an archaeological centre where many pieces form part of the collection of the Padre Le Paige Archaeological Museum, named in honour of the Belgian priest who dedicated a large part of his life to exploring the desert. The museum holds mummies, tools and religious artefacts from the original villages of the region. In due time, transfer to Calama airport for flight to Santiago de Chile. Arrival and reception at the airport; transfer to the hotel. Accommodation. Total distance travelled: 110 km (69 miles).
Day 13 – Santiago de Chile
Breakfast. Morning sightseeing tour of Santiago de Chile. Visit the historic centre of Santiago de Chile including the Palacio de la Moneda, house of Government, and the Plaza de Armas, where the Cathedral, National History Museum and the Central Post Office are to be found. Continue to the Parque Forestal, the Fine Arts Museum and the bohemian area of Bellavista before climbing the San Cristóbal hill to enjoy a panoramic view of the city. The visit finishes with a visit to the craft village of Los Graneros del Alba. In the afternoon, visit to Concha y Toro, one of the best known wineries in the country. Drive to the Maipo Valley and the village of Pirque, famous for its production of red wine. The winery was founded in 1883 and is the largest exporter of Chilean wine. The tour includes a visit to the pretty gardens, the cellars and the plants themselves, some of which were planted by the original owner, Don Melchor Concha y Toro. The visit includes wine tasting.Return to the hotel. Accommodation.
Day 14 – Santiago e Chile
Breakfast. Transfer to the airport to board the scheduled flight.
