Pacaya Samiria Amazon Lodge is located at the Marañón River’s bank, and it is the only one lodge inside of the buffer zone of the Pacaya Samiria National Reserve
Surrounded by abundant rainforest, Pacaya Samiria Amazon Lodge has been built in accordance with the architecture of the zone and offers comfortable 8 bungalows.
Every bungalow has a private terrace with view to the Marañón River, incorporated bathrooms with wall tile, access to the main garden and all areas are protected with mosquito nettings.
It has club-house, dining room, hammock room, bar, watch-towers and hiking paths; hammock room and viewpoints that offer stunning panoramic views of the Marañón River and the surrounding forest.
Activities also include visits to the local communities, hikes in primary rainforest, flora and fauna observation, birdwatching, canoe rides, piranha fishing, excursions during the day and night, you can enjoy the spectacular view from a 100 feet watching tower to observe the confluence of the Marañón and Ucayali rivers where the Amazonas river is born.
In the Pacaya Samiria National Reserve visitors will also have the chance to observe The exotic pink dolphin of the Amazon at their natural habitat. Highlights
Pacaya Samiria National Reserve With 2’080 000 hectares, it is the biggest National Reserve of Peru , also it is the largest protected flooded forest of the world and one of the richest places in biological wealth on the planet. Between its biological diversity we find 449 of tropical bird species, 102 of mammals, 256 known species of freshwater fish, 69 of reptiles and more than 1000 varieties of plants, as well as species in danger of extinction like the giant otter, the black lizard, the manatee and the pink dolphin of the Amazon. The place's beauty, as well as its biological wealth makes the reserve a particularly important destination for scientific investigators, nature lovers and bird watchers.
Tours from 3 to 6 days, depending on your particular interests and time available. Rates include transfer by bus and riverboat lodging, meals, entrance fee to the Reserve and guided excursions.
Groups are limited to a maximum of 10 guests per boat to allow a closer and better appreciation of nature. Excursions are conducted by bilingual guides with experience ecotourism and in some case supported by local guides.
Our staff is well trained in first aid techniques. Transportation is comfortable in boats with roof and life jackets.
The lodge have a direct communication system by short wave radio with the city of Iquitos.
We start our adventure of the Peruvian forest at the Iquitos City's Airport, from there we will transport in a modern and comfortable air-conditioned minivan traveling on a nice highway to the town of Nauta.
Nauta was the first township founded by the Spanish at the Marañón River’s bank. The trip takes approximately 1:30 hours, a 97 km journey. In Nauta we will take boats, which belong to the lodge, to visit the Ucayali and Marañón River, where the Amazon River is born, from here we have a spectacular sight of the forest because of the 100 foot high watching tower, next we will go on with our trip to the lodge for lunch and accommodation. In the afternoon, we will go on a hike through the rainforests that surround the lodge, to appreciate rainforest flora and fauna; depending on the weather conditions, we are able to observe a beautiful sunset.
Dependant on night time climate conditions, we will make an excursion by boat to observe night animals and insects; also enjoyable is hearing the various sounds that comes from the forest, later we will be back to the lodge for dinner and resting.
Day 2 Pacaya samira national reserve
At dawn, we will make a small hike through the forest around the lodge, searching for birds to observe, followed by breakfast back at the lodge.
Immediately after, we will go to the Pacaya Samiria National Reserve where we register our entry and then continue out journey into the reserve. In our visit to the reserve we will make a special excursion to observe the "gray" and "pink dolphin" down the Yanayacu River, in addition we will be in contact with the vast variety of flora and fauna that the reserve offers. Something that immediately catches our attention is the black waters of the rivers, which reflects with such an identical image, the sky, the clouds, the bank’s vegetation, the huge trees, that the tourists have the sensation of traveling between mirrors, this is why the Pacaya Samiria National Reserve is known as the “jungle of the mirrors”.
At noon we will stop to have our box lunch.
We will visit Japon and Plantano lagoos (cochas), with a great variety of palms, large trees and a beautiful landscape. At this place, we can make a variety of activities, dependant on the tourist, such as canoe rides, piranha fishing, identification of plants, bird watching or maybe just relaxing with a nice cool swim in one of the lagoons. At the end of the day, we will back to the lodge for dinner and resting.
Day 3 : Nauta creek - Iquitos
We will go on with our bird watching session very early this morning followed by breakfast at the lodge.
Immediately after, we make an excursion by boat around the Nauta Creek and the closest lagoons, where we observe flora and fauna (monkeys, sloths and wide variety of aquatic birds) and other; we will stop for a while to enjoy our box lunch under the shadow of the surrounding jungle trees.
Later, during our excursion to the primary forest, the guide will identify medicinal plants and trees of special interest.
Finally we go back to the lodge for dinner and resting.
Day 4: Lodge- riverbank village Iquitos
After breakfast we will visit a riverbank village to observe the lifestyle of the natives as well as their daily activities such as hunting, gathering, fishing or agriculture, we can also collaborate with the community development buying typical souvenirs hand made by the natives, made of seeds and vegetable ivory called tagua.
Immediately after, we will go out to the Iquitos City Airport ready to aboard our flight to come back to Lima City - or transfer to your selected hotel in Iquitos City.

Climate: The climate in the Reserve is tropical, warm and humid with minimum temperatures of 72º F (22º C) and maximum temperatures that can reach up to 88º F (28º C), except for the month of June in which the temperature can drop abruptly due to the action of the cold fronts that come from the Argentinean Patagonia. Generally, dawns and nights in the jungle tend to be fresh. It can rain on any day of the year, being showers more frequent between the months of February and May.
Vaccinations: It is recommended to be vaccinated against yellow fever; however it is not mandatory.

Meals: At our dining room, visitors can enjoy international and regional cuisine, as well as bar service. Meals consist of soups and appetizers, salads, main course, pasta, dessert, fresh fruits, coffee or tea., also fresh water for our visitors. If the passenger requires an especial diet, please let us know during your booking.
Electricity: Electricity (220 v) is only available at night. Schedule from 6 pm. to 10 pm; Each room has a flashlight and a kerosene lamp in the terrace.

Rates not included alcoholics and not alcoholics drinks, must be paid with cash in the lodge, because we do not accept credit cards.
The lodge has five years opened to the visitants who enjoy the eco tourism activity, our specialized guides in ecotourism have many years of experience working at the Pacaya Samiria National Reserve, most of them are natives of the communities who know very well the forest, that is why we are ready to give you all the facilities to develop the programs and the camping activity mentioned in the the longer programs, we bring sleeping bags, small kitchens, portable bathroom, tents, and some other things we will need when we spend the night at the inside of the Reserve.
In every program we include visit to some village to observe the lifestyle and daily activities of the people, such as hunting, gathering, fishing or agriculture, where also we can collaborate with the community development buying typical souvenirs hand made by the natives, made of seeds and a vegetable ivory called tagua.
We recommend bring just one piece of luggage and limit it to 15 kg. and also it is important to mention that the lodge has some medicines to emergencies like to snakes bites could happen.

Pacaya Samiria Amazon Lodge is located 120 kilometers (74.5 miles) southwest of the city of Iquitos banks of the Marañón River, short distance from the Pacaya Samiria National Reserve
All our programs include the pick-up from Iquitos' airport, transfer from Iquitos to Nauta by bus and riverboat from Nauta to the lodge and vice versa.
